What is a gonorrhea test?

Gonorrhea is among the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). It is a bacterial infection contacted through vaginal, oral, or anal sex with an infected person. It can also be passed from a pregnant lady to her infant at childbirth. Gonorrhea can infect both men and women. It is most frequent in younger people, aged 15–24.

Many people with gonorrhea are not aware they have it. So they may also pass it to others without their knowledge of it. Men with gonorrhea may also have some symptoms. But ladies regularly have no signs or mistake gonorrhea signs for a bladder or vaginal infection.

A gonorrhea test searches for the presence of gonorrhea bacteria in your body. The sickness can be cured with antibiotics. But if it is not treated, gonorrhea can lead to infertility and different serious health problems. In women, it can result to pelvic inflammatory disorder and ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy that grows outside the uterus, where a baby can’t stay alive. If not handled promptly, ectopic pregnancy can be deadly to the mother.

In men, gonorrhea can result to painful urination and scarring of the urethra. The urethra is a tube that permits urine to glide from the bladder to the outside of the body and as well takes semen. In men, this tube moves through the penis.
